Professional Bio

Like many of us in higher education, I wear a lot of hats, and that is part of what keeps the work meaningful and exciting. I am an instructional designer, educator, training facilitator, and scholar-practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in higher education across national and international contexts.

As Assistant Professor and Director of Instructional and Learning Design at Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement, I support the design and improvement of online, blended, and face-to-face learning through course design, faculty development, academic leadership, and distance learning strategy. I also teach in Mercer’s Human Resources and Talent Development program, where I help prepare future learning and development professionals, instructional designers, trainers, and workplace educators.

My work centers on learner-centered design, adult learning, online student success, faculty development, and the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies in teaching and learning. My scholarship has been published in peer-reviewed journals, books, and edited volumes. I am the author of Designing Learner-Centered Online Courses: Practical Strategies for Instructors, Instructional Designers, and Administrators (Springer, 2026) and Academic Success in Online Programs: A Resource for College Students (Springer, 2024), and the lead editor of Global Perspectives on Higher Education: From Crisis to Opportunity (Springer, 2023).

My international work includes a Fulbright U.S. Scholar award in Azerbaijan and a Fulbright Specialist award in Timor-Leste. I am also an invited speaker, reviewer, and past president of the Association Supporting Computer Users in Education (ASCUE).
