Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Moving from Education to Organizational Assessment

Over the academic year there has been a great outpouring of calls for diversity, equity, and inclusion  (DEI) training and education. Many institutions of higher education have taken up the mantle of engaging its workforce and students with relevant training in the area of DEI. These efforts are to be applauded. To follow-up on these efforts, we must ask the question of how to use these trainings and educational opportunities as a springboard to assess our higher education institutions in order to affect change. This workshop will give a timeline of one institution’s journey from moving from DEI training and education to organizational assessment. Participants will:
  1. Learn and be able to articulate how to follow up DEI training with assessment of organizational DEI competency
  2. Be given an organizational assessment tool to utilize
  3. Begin the process for planning for organizational assessment related to DEI

Presented by:  Dr. Warren Hilton

Dr. Warren Hilton has experience in enrollment management and student development at public and private higher education institutions.  Currently, he serves as the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at Kutztown University. In this role he leads enrollment and student affairs efforts designed to increase new student enrollment and retention. Prior to Kutztown University, Warren was the Dean of Enrollment Management at the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP).  At CCP he oversaw admissions, financial aid, records and registration, enrollment technology, veteran’s resources, international student services, and the welcome center.  Prior to CCP, he was the Associate Dean for Student and External Affairs at the Drexel University School of Public Health.  At Drexel, he managed enrollment management, student affairs, marketing, and public relations. In addition, Warren served as a faculty member in the School of Public Health and the School of Education at Drexel University. He also co-directed the Opening Doors Health Disparities Research Training Program (a NIH grant funded (R25) program) at Drexel University.  Additionally, Warren worked at various higher education institutions including University of Maryland-College Park, Johns Hopkins University, Stevenson University, and Moravian College.  His corporate experience includes working at Johnson and Johnson, DuPont, and Coretech Consulting.  Warren currently serves on the board of HealthSpark Foundation and previously served on the board of the Lehigh Valley Red Cross and as a member of the Minsi Trail Boy Scouts Urban Scouting initiative. Warren received his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Management from Drexel University; a Masters of Arts in Student Affairs and a B.S. in Computer Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
