ACHE New England - Strategic Planning
Ends & Means Statements
The ACHE New England Strategic Planning Committee developed end statements for the region during the Summer of 2001. Then a workshop was held at the ACHE New England Spring 2002 Conference to enlist the assistance of ACHE New England members in developing means statements. The Strategic Planning Commitee reviewed and edited the results of that workshop and submitted the following ends/means statements to the ACHE New England Officers for approval and prioritizing.
1. MARKETING AND RECRUITMENT: ACHE NEW ENGLAND WILL BROADEN AND INCREASE ITS MEMBERSHIP BASE BY AN ANNUAL GROWTH OF 5%.
MEANS:
* Target one traditionally under-represented area (i.e., states, institutional types, or groups) of the region per year for special outreach activities.
* Provide incentives for active members to bring potential or inactive members to a regional event.
2. MEMBERSHIP INVOLVEMENT: ACHE NEW ENGLAND WILL DEVELOP INITIATIVES TO ENCOURAGE AND INCREASE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION AND RETENTION OF ITS MEMBERS.
MEANS:
* Restructure membership committee to be comprised of committee chair, regional chair (ex- officio), and one representative from each state.
* Solicit active members to mentor newcomers.
3. NETWORKING & COMMUNICATION: ACHE NEW ENGLAND WILL FOSTER IMPROVED COMMUNICATION BETWEEN AND AMONG ITS MEMBERSHIP.
MEANS:
* Explore technology to create common communication tools for Region I (i.e. chat room, threded discussions, website, list-servs, etc.)
* Identify three geographically distinct member institutions to set up/host lunch/roundtables to gather local institutions and members together.
* Promote Region I website reminders via postcards, giveaways, promo items.
4. LEADERSHIP: ACHE NEW ENGLAND WILL PROVIDE INCREASED OPPORTUNITIES TO IDENTIFY, TRAIN, AND MENTOR POTENTIAL ACHE LEADERS.
MEANS:
* Develop "rising star" award to recognize early leadership potential.
* Develop Region I Leadership Institute with assistance from past chairs.
* Develop special mentoring process for upcoming leadership.
5. PROGRAMMING: ACHE NEW ENGLAND PROGRAMMING WILL REFLECT CURRENT TRENDS AND MEET THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NEEDS OF ITS MEMBERS.
MEANS:
* Maintain Professional Development Day and Spring Conference.
* Develop and conduct on-line survey to poll members regarding content for regional events.
6. RESOURCES AND MONEY: ACHE NEW ENGLAND WILL ENSURE FISCAL SOLVENCY.
MEANS:
* Explore strategies to utilize assets more effectively and create reserve fund.
* Explore reciprocal financial support from international.
* Focus financial planning on strategic priorities.
* Develop self-sustaining budgets for regional events.
7. TECHNOLOGY: ACHE NEW ENGLAND WILL PROMOTE THE UTILIZATION OF VARIOUS FORMS OF TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE ITS EFFECTIVENESS.
MEANS:
* Develop a Region I list-serv.
* Ensure that the URL is prominently displayed on all correspondence and marketing materials.
* Produce a "timeless giveaway" with its URL on it.
8. INTERNATIONAL/ACHE NEW ENGLAND CONNECTIONS: ACHE NEW ENGLAND WILL STRENGTHEN THE LINK BETWEEN ACHE NEW ENGLAND AND THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION THROUGH INCREASED COMMUNICATION, MEMBERSHIP, LEADERSHIP, AND INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION.
MEANS:
* Develop a strategy for consistent regional nominations for international positions of leadership (i.e., board membership and offices).
* Publicize and update international activities at each ACHE New England event such as Professional Development Day and Spring Conference.
* Establish website links between regional and international.
* Develop strategies to increase regional attendance at international conferences.
