A Message from the President

Rick OsbornWhat is the value of the Annual Conference and Meeting?

One of the more pleasant responsibilities of the ACHE president is to visit each of the organization’s regional conferences.  During the business meeting at one of these conferences, the vice chair of the region asked the attendees whether they should consider cancelling their 2010 regional meeting.  After all, the economy was weak, budgets were tight, and travel was difficult.  After a brief silence, one fellow spoke up.  “You know,” he said, “if we cancel our meeting ourselves, then what we’re saying to the decision makers is that it wasn’t very important to begin with.” — Read more...

Review of Prior Learning Portfolios: A Representative Collection
A book by Denise M. Hart and Jerry H. Hickerson

"CAEL's newest publication, Prior Learning Portfolios: A Representative Collection, is a comprehensive set of materials and information about the historical context for prior learning assessment (PLA) that will assist PLA administrators practitioners, adult learners, faculty engaged in the learning assessment process, institutions making the case for offering or continuing to support PLA programs, and governments supporting and encouraging such programs. It is just the professional resource that has been needed in adult higher education for many years. Assessment professionals will find this to be one of the most beneficial sources of information and tools they will put to use in multiple venues. The CD-ROM with sample portfolio information is the icing on the cake of tools for PLA practitioners!"
